Walt Disney Elementary School is a Pre-K-5 elementary school serving about 380 students in Omaha, Nebraska. It was dedicated on December 8, 1974. While many schools in the district are named after famous Nebraskans, Walt Disney Elementary is different. Walt Disney Elementary School is named for a modern hero, an idealist whose efforts to provide wholesome family entertainment have made him one of the best-known persons of the twentieth century. An essay was submitted to be named after Walt Disney in 1974, only eight years after his death. The Walt Disney Company agreed to permit the use of the Disney name, and the school board approved it. Later, the Dolphins were voted for as the mascot.
Mission Statement:
Walt Disney Elementary, a diverse school devoted to each child, guarantees all students a world-class education through challenging, engaging, and innovative learning experiences. We will ensure students demonstrate academic excellence and social and emotional skills necessary for personal success in a global society.
